Let’s forget all the hype around the Mama Shelter in Lyon, its fabulous design and its week-end brunch: we have a much better deal to suggest, it’s called the Kitchen Café. We’ve been immediately seduced by the great vibe in this café.
Behind the counter, there’s Laurent Ozan who makes great pastries and Connie Zagora, who does basically all the rest. We started with an incredible granola, perfectly balanced in terms of spice, cereals and yogurt. It’s a simple recipe but it’s hard to find good ones in France. I also loved the vanilla cake, the frosting was literally melting in my mouth and the texture of the cake was not too heavy. We couldn’t stop there so we had a shot at the milk chocolate cookie which was well executed.
Our only regret? We should have come back for lunch. If you’re visiting Lyon, this place is entirely worth the detour to Place Jean Macé, on the other side of the Rhone.
