Finding a good brunch in Red Hook is not an easy task. The neighbordhood is quiet, full of strollers and smiling crowds.
I thought it would be fine and we went for a visit to this charming neigborhood without doing our homework. We ended up at Buttermilk Channel, thinking that the 20 minutes wait was proof of an excellent brunch.
Huge disappointment. Buttermilk Channel is supposed to be a homey American restaurant but we can’t really agree.
The staff was quite accomadating, but it didn’t make up for a bland granola with no texture and only a few fruits on top. I went with the eggs benedict, which are supoposed to be a specialty at Buttermilk Channel, they were looking perfeclty cooked. But I guess the cook must have dropped an entire pack of salt in his skillet.
Let’s be honest, Buttermilk Channel’s is on the cheap side. About 22$ for a brunch for two is a deal. Try to get a table on the terrace if you can, it’s more quiet and charming than the noisy room inside.
All in all, Buttermilk Channel is not really worth a visit in itself. Don’t think twice if you’re hungry and looking for typicical American Brunch in Red Hook, but otherwise look out for something else.
