Is there something better than going to Ashbox to perfectly start my Sunday morning? Maybe not. Ashbox is an amazing café located on the borders of Greenpoint, just a few steps away from the East River.
Food is made and served by two incredible Japanese girls; many customers seem to be regulars. Some come to Ashbox to have some work done while others just enjoy brunch with friends and family. The cooks combine American breakfast classics – bagel and coffee – with traditional Japanese food on their menu. Order a matcha green tea made definitely sense then. Le Grumeau is a world citizen, or at least is pleased to think he is.
The minute I drained my tea, I ran to the bar to order scrambled eggs served with simple but beautiful Japanese rice and sprout salad ($8 with the tea, such a bargain). On the menu, you’ll also find the mixed green salad and smoked salmon ($8.75) and the Udon Noodle Soup ($7). All in all, Ashbox is surprising – a real makeover of the American brunch – and devilishy flavorful.
Le Grumeau loves this exquisite place and highly recommends it to you. More information about the menu and the hours here.
